The sea is an alien realm we can enter only briefly, filled with creatures we have only begun to study. Over the last few decades, a number of people have devoted their lives to solving its mysteries and witnessing its special events. Among them is diver, naturalist and cinematographer Feodor Pitcairn, who has carried advanced photographic and video equipment - including High-Definition cameras - into the deep to capture the most accurate and vivid images possible of a world most of us will never see.
Feodor Pitcairn Productions studios are located in Pennsylvania, USA – our subject matter however is to be found all over the world, below the oceans surface. From French Polynesia, to Alaska; from the Channel Islands off the coast of California to the legendary ecosystem of the Galapagos – our mission is to capture the life and beauty of the worlds oceans in a way that will inform, engage, and enlighten.
Particular to our mission is the innovative use of cutting edge technology. Feodor Pitcairn was a pioneer in recognizing the advantages of using Sony Broadcast television cameras underwater compared to film. Mr. Pitcairn took delivery of the first Sony High-Definition handy camera delivered to the U.S. in March of 1988, and has been shooting in HD ever since.
It has been said that people will conserve only that which they love, and love only that which they know. Ultimately, our purpose in recording the wonders of the underwater world is to connect people with an environment in need of their understanding and action.
"In wildness is the preservation of the world."
— Henry David Thoreau
